The Exponent Schedules Meeting Education Division A special assembly will be held April 26 at 9:30 a.m. for all students planning to do their student teaching any time during the next academic year. This includes both two-year and four-year curriculum students in pro-fessional education, according to Dr. W. C. Gemeinhardt, chairman of the division of education and psychology. Secondary education students are to meet in the Administration Audi-torium and four-year elementary ma-jors will meet in L-213. Two-year ele-mentary students will hold their meet-ing in the Library Auditorium. Gemeinhardt said the meetings are to be held to enable students who want student teaching prior to the change to semesters to work it in. They will also advise students about the courses they must complete prior to the end of the winter quarter if they plan to do student teaching any time during the year. These meetings will enable the Di-vision of Education and Psychology to know how many students will want student teaching, who they are and what their majors are so that plans may be made for placing the teach-ers. Three main points will serve as the basis for the platform of Slate 2, headed by Rand Petersen, Lemmon sophomore, in the April 30 student council election. According to Petersen, the first plank of the platform consists of working to get more social affairs sponsored by both the Student Coun-cil and the various other student Silver Bracelet Lost On Campus A silver bracelet of a leaf design was lost Friday morning, April 6 on campus. "We will work," said Petersen, "towards having activities not only on one week-end night, but on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Events could be scheduled such as card par-ties and dances for these nights. We would like to see two more semi-formals on campus such as the home-coming dance open only to college students. Also, we would like to bring back the Christmas Formal or spon-sor a formal dance besides the Prom in the spring for the entire student body." As their second point, the slate considers it essential to "make full use of the facilities of the Exponent." Elaborating on this statement, Peter-sen said that they will have the min-utes of every meeting published, and when the suggestion box is used, the suggestions of importance to the stu-dent body will be printed in the Ex- With four slates in the running, platforms are being planned, speeches written, and excitement has begun to grow in pre-election preparations for the campus Student Council Elections scheduled for April 30, according to Chuck Carrier, president of the Stu-dent Council. Since last week's edition of the Ex-ponent, which announced the first slate of candidates, three others have entered the race. Vying for the presidential spot on Slate Two is Rand Petersen, Lemmon sophomore. Running with him are James Hoye, Aberdeen sophomore, candidate for vice president; Janice Buehler, Huron junior, nominated for secretary; and Kristi Vensand, Aber-deen sophomore, who will compete for treasurer. Slate Three's all-male roster is headed by Andrew Parks, junior from Fredericktown, Missouri, in the con-test for president. Dennis Osterholt, Platte junior, is this slate's candidate for vice president; Steve Wiitala, Frederick junior, is running for sec-retary; and John Spear, Ashton junior, is vying for the treasurer's post. The latest list of candidates to an-nounce has John Williamson, Pierre junior, in the presidential slot. Com-pleting the list of Slate Four nomi-nees are Morris Bates, Webster junior, vice presidential candidate; Karen Gayton, Selfridge, N. Dak. sopho-more, running for secretary; and Shei-la Smith, Aberdeen junior, vying for treasurer. Slate One, announced last week, includes Carl Kline, Aberdeen junior, presidential candidate; James Gaffey, Clark junior, candidate for vice pres-ident; Jan Kruse, Parkston sophomore, competing for secretary; and Linda Koenders, Watertown freshman, nom-inee for treasurer. Formulation of a platform has been completed by both Slates Two and Three, while the statement of goals for the other two will be ready for next week's paper. All petitions must be in Monday, April 23, added Car-rier. Platform Stresses Social, Intellectual Aspects Of College The members of Slate 3, headed by Andy Parks, Fredericktown, Mo. soph-omore, have built their platform a-round the social and intellectual as-pects of Northern. In a statement prepared for the Exponent, Parks outlined the slate's plan for student government. Parks stated, "We of Slate 3 do ordain this platform to be the key center of our efforts in establishing a strong student government for the students at North-ern. "Granted that in the past nearly all slates have established a platform that promised many things that they would accomplish if they were elect-ed. We realize that a very small per-centage of these promises were ful-filled after the election. Therefore, Slate 3 submits the following state-ment as our platform. "If elected, we pledge to combine dedication and hard work in an effort to achieve proper student voice in the advancing of social activities and in-tellectual growth of Northern. "The candidates of Slate 3," added Parks, "represent nearly every phase of student life at Northern. The pres-idential candidate is represenative of the athletic-minded students. Our candidate for vice-president repre-sents the life of those who live on campus. The candidate for secre-tary represents the off-campus stu-dents and the nominee for treasurer is representative of the members of of the fraternities." In summing up the platform, Parks concluded, "We feel that a slate that represents the students must be com-posed of students that are capable of representing all of the students."
