As to their guilt, we are unable to state, as they are to have a hearing before Jus-tice Ashley of Menno. It is to be hoped they may be able to clear themselves of the charge. Scotland Republican: A farmer be-ing unable to meet the payment on his land this fall, wrote to the mort-gagee and asked for an extension on the ground that the crops were poor, prices low etc., and on account of those democratic times, he is unable to borrow. A relay was received from the mortgagee who lived in the east, saying: "Stringency in money matters, scarcity of crops and low prices are no excuse, but good old democratic times excuse everything and ought to relieve any man from performing his contract on time. Madison, S.D., Dec. 5 - Chris Bewarder, a farmer living west of Madison, is again held on the charge of stealing hogs. Last year he was ac-cused of stealing six hogs and selling them at the market. He was tried in the winter term of court and the jury dis-agreed. The case was carried over to this October term when he was again tried and acquitted. This time he is accused of having stolen one red hog from Clark Wingert who lives north-west of Madison and about six miles from the Bewarder place. Wednesday morning Wingert missed the hog from his pen and followed a wagon track to the Bewarder farm where he found the hog which he accuses Bewarder of having stolen. A peculiar feature is that the hog in question has only three feet, helping to enforce Wingert's idenfication. A warrant was issued for Bewarder and Sheriff Butts brought him to the courthouse where he was given a preliminary hearing and put under $300 bonds. 80 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald December 21,1933 Had To Be Worth While: "I dropped a nickel in front of a blind beggar to-day to see if he'd pick it up." "Well, did he?" "No. He said, 'Make it a quarter, boss, and I'll forget myself.'" The marriage of Eidella Wahl and Fred Heiydt took place at the home of the bride's parents Dec. 14 with Rev. Huenemann officiating. John Schempp took a load of cattle to Yankton for Emil Schoenfish and August Wollman to be sold at the stock sale. Fred P. Mueller said they raised about 150 turkeys this last season and they were all sold around this neigh-borhood excepting what was stolen. They were away one night and 16 toms were stolen that night and some hens. It was the week before Thanks-giving that they were taken. Frank Solay and Helen Aisenbrey were married Nov. 29 at the Catholic church in Tripp with Rev. Fr. Cuniff officiating. The bride is the daughter of Katherine Koerner of Menno. Nine geese, 10 chickens and a pig supplied the feed for the crowd which gathered at the Solay home that evening when a dancing party was staged which lasted until seven o'clock in the morning. 50 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald December 19,1963 Mrs. Carl M. Sanders ST., died of a heart attack Dec. 11 in the Samuel Freeman Hospital in Englewood, Ca-lif. She was en route by plane from Sacramento to Mullins when the fatal attack occurred.
