ROSE DAIS (1923-2013) Rose Dais, 90, of Acampo, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at her home. Her son, Ken, provided care for her over the past several years. She was the daughter of Tjeerd "George" and Aaltje "Alice" Stuut Nienhuis, born in Devils Lake, ND on February 23, 1923. There she was raised in a small two room home with two brothers and five sisters. In 1946 she moved with her parents and three sisters to Gait where she worked at Steiner's grocery store. In 1949 she married Esra Dais of Acampo. They were married 50 years before Esra preceded her in death in 1999. Rose worked as a cook at Oak View School for approximately 25 years before retiring. She was an accomplished cook and also provided meals for vari-ous church camps and retreats. Together Rose and Esra had four children, Bob Dais (Debbie), Bill Dais (Carol), Ken Dais and Kathy Dais Straub (Rick). The home of Rose, Esra and the children was a happy destination for guests. Esra provided the entertain-ment with his stories and antics. Rose provided a warm and hospitable welcome which caused every visitor to feel like they had just arrived home. Rose's warm, accepting and loving personality was a model for those around her. With this combination, the Dais home was a lively and inviting des-tination for extended family and friends. The family enjoyed camping and annually visited Yosemite Valley, Leoni Meadows and Seacliff Beach State Park. After their retirement, Rose and Esra did some traveling with their motorhome but were never gone too long or too far away from their grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Kiley Dais Bliss (Mike), Chad Dais (Olivia), Felecia Straub Coles (Adam), Darin Straub and Clark Dais. She also has three great-grandchildren, J.D. Bliss, Colby Bliss and Brady Bliss. Rose was a faithful member of the Lodi Church of God (Seventh Day). She was bap-tized by E.A. Straub at a church conference meeting held in Miami, Oklahoma in 1944. She met her husband, Esra, through the church in 1944. Rose faithfully attended and supported the church until the time of her death. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Esra, two brothers, Edward Nienhuis and Matthew Nienhuis, and two sisters, Tina Gjesdal and Fennie Schlenker. She is sur-vived by three sisters, Catherine Carlin, Alice Sheffield and Fencine Moldenhauer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Lodi Church of God (Seventh Day) located at 2100 Tienda Drive on Saturday evening, October 12*h at 6:00 pm.
