OBITUARY Robert "Bobby" Auch Robert "Bobby" Auch, age 83, of Lesterville, S.D., passed away at his home Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016. The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 29, at Zion Reformed Church in Menno, S.D., with Rev. Travis Grassmid officiating. Burial was in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, with military graveside rites by Ra-mes- Bender American Legion Post 152 Honor Guard, Menno, and the SDARNG Honor Guard, Sioux Falls, S.D. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, at Zion Reformed Church in Menno with the family pres-ent from 5-7 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, and resumed one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers were Brad Schaeffer, Daniel Schaeffer, Luke Schaeffer, Zachary Auch, Terry Auch, Wesley Schaeffer and Marcus and Crystal Snearley. Robert Emamjel- Auch wa Oct. 17, 1932, to Emanuel and Salami-na (Schoppert) Auch in rural Freeman, S.D. He was baptized Dec. 26, 1932, at Johannesthal Reform Church, rural Freeman, by William Huenemann. He attended Wolf Creek rural coun-ty school where his education began with teaching him to speak English as only German was spoken at home. Robert professed his faith with con-firmation June 29, 1947 by Rev. Wil-liam Korn at Kassel Reform Church, rural Menno. On April 1 , 1953, Robert was draft-ed into the United States Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., with the 3rd Pit Co A - 6th Quartermaster Bn - 6th Armed Division. After completion of basic training, he was transferred to Fort Ord, Calif., for two weeks then to Presidio, San Francisco, Calif. On May 1, 1954, the 537th Engineer CO was then transferred via ship to King Salmon, Alaska. He was honorably discharged April 5,1955, as a corporal and returned home to South Dakota. On March 21,1954, he married the love of his life, Alvina Schaeffer at Sa-ron Reformed Church, rural Menno. After his marriage, their lifelong occu-pation was farming beginning on his father's farm north of Menno and later moving to the current farm by Lester-ville. He retired from farming in 2010 when his grandson took over in 2010. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. His love of nature was evident with his creation of a habitat and fishing pond behind the property and large areas of CRP land. He was also affectionately known in the community as the "watermelon king." He was an avid baseball player and fan. He was a devoted member of Zion Reformed Church of Menno. He held offices of trustee and Sunday school teacher and also sang in the church choir but most of all his joy was found through his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, who instilled his faith and morals in all the lives he touched. Thankful for his love are those he leaves behind, his wife Alvina of 61 years; children, Dan (Nancy) Auch, Lesterville, Deb (Greg) Rabbe, Northrop, Minn., Carmen (John) Sch-ramm, Utica, S.D., Douglas (Lynette) Auch, Lesterville; five grandchildren who loved their grandpa, Brad (Tanya) Schaeffer, Parker, S.D., Dan (Nicole) Schaeffer, Olivet, S.D., Luke (Des) ScEaeffer, Mankato, Minn., Crystal (Marcus) Snearley, Jacksonville, N.C., and Zachary Auch, Lincoln, Neb.; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hadley, Austin, Madison, Corwin and Isaac; and brother Ed Auch of Menno. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ervin, Harold, Rich-ard, Arnold and Eugene, and sisters: Ruth, Esther and Ella. OBITUARY Steven John Neth Steven John Neth of Scotland, S.D., unexpectedly passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at Landmann-Jungman Memorial Hospital in Scotland having attained the age of 63 years, six months and 25 days. Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Goglin Fu-neral Home in Scotland from 3-7 p.m., with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and a prayer service that evening at 7 p.m. The funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at the United Church of Christ in Scotland with Rev. Ron Shifley officiating. Burial fol-lowed in the Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Scotland, with military graveside rites. Funeral arrangements were handled by Goglin Funeral Home of Scotland. Online condolences may be sent to w ww.goglinfh .com. Steven John Neth was born July 28, 1952, to Elmer and Dorothy (Mogck) Neth in Parkston, S.D. In 1966 Steve was confirmed in the Christian faith. He early-enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and actively served in the Springfield Unit. On April 8, 1972, Steve was united in marriage to Sharon Breaw at the United Church of Christ in Scotland. From the time he was young on the family farm to the years he shared with his wife on their own homestead, Steve was a hard-worker who lived an agri-cultural, outdoorsmen life-style. He farmed numerous crops and for over 20 years raised and milked Holstein dairy cattle. Throughout the years he also worked as a road maintainer for Zeeb Construction Co. and other lo-cal construction companies. When he wasn't working he was hunting with his sons and grandsons, optimistically fishing on his pontoon boat, camping with his family and friends on his bluff lot in Springfield, spending time with his grandchildren and watching their activities or taking a joy ride in his prized automobiles or motorcycles. Steve loved motorcycles, especially his '03 Harley-Davidson Anniver-sary Model. He and the motorcycle visited many locations over the years such as Rapid City, Yellowstone, Min-nesota, Kool Deadwood Nites and ' more. When the crops were in and the weather warm, he would also bring out , his treasured '61 Impala bubble top. I These drives and time together were a joy and a love that Steve happily shared with his wife throughout their marriage. He is loved, remembered and sur- c vived by his wife of 43 years Sha-ron Neth of Scotland; daughter Tina , (Terry) Rueb of Yankton and their children: Trevor, Tristan, Taylor and great-granddaughter Paisley; son Kev-in (Holly) Neth of Scotland and their children: Tyler, Steven and Trey; son Craig (Kristal) Neth of Sioux Falls and their children: Braden, Bryantt, Breaw and Brody; brothers Mike (Sandy) Neth of Yankton and Roger (Robin) Neth of Scotland; his parents; and mother-in-law La Verne Breaw. OBITUARY Altha Esther Mayer Altha Esther (Semmler) Mayer was born March 29, 1922, in Douglas County, Delmont, S.D., to Gustave and Marie Semmler. She was baptized April 24, 1922, at home by Rev. Fred Mayer and was confirmed June 14, 1936, by Rev. H. Pirner at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Delmont. She passed away Feb. 23, 2016. The funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Free-man, S.D., with Rev. David W. El-lis officiating. Organist was Marlene Pidde. Pallbearers were Doug Kokesh Sr., Doug Kokesh Jr., Dan Kokesh, Doug Baumiller, Brad Baumiller and Damian Janssen Jr. Interment was in the Freeman City Cemetery. Walter Funeral Home was in charge of ar-rangements. She attended country school through eighth grade. Altha was united in marriage to Gerhardt Emil Mayer from Clayton, S.D., Nov. 26, 1944, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. F. Edward Pietz. They lived on a farm southeast of Parkston, S.D., for 42 years until retiring in Freeman, S.D., in 1984. They were members of Unity Lutheran Church of rural Free-man where she was active with teach-ing Sunday school from nursery age of the confirmation class. She also led the singing for the children, participated in the Ladies Aide and sang in the church choir. Altha enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and any type of fancy work like making corsages for anniversaries. She also liked to bake and decorate cakes for family occasions. Altha is survived by her daughter Betty Hladky, grand-daughter Kimberly Mayer and several great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her par-ents, husband, son Jimmie Mayer, grandchild Michael Hladky and sister Leota Schultz.
