125 YEARS AGO Hutchimon Herald (Olivet) March 20,1890 Ella Dailey of Ohio, daughter of Mrs. Thomas S. Sharp, arrived at Oliv-et and will make Hutchinson County her future home. Married. -- At the Commercial House in Menno Friday, March 14, Henry Roscamp and Mary Dickmann, Rev. Father O'Hara officiating. Married at the residence of the bride's parents in Hutchinson County, J.H. Crew to Lucia G. Haight on Feb. 23 by Elder O.P. Haight of the Chris-tian church. Miss Lilly Bohner has begun the last term of a nine months school. She has the good will of the people and scholars about Milltown. 100 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald March 18,1915 S.L. Heaton phoned over from Olivet that they were keeping quite busy tuning pianos and repairing or-gans. John P. Bender, 59 years, died March 15 of heart failure and too much fat surrounding the heart. Henry F. Mettler engaged Em. C. Mettler to build him a big new barn as soon as spring opens up so carpenter work can begin. It looks like there would not be any first nine-ball team in Menno this year. G.A. Haisch, the manager last year, is not here and no one seems interested enough to spend as much money for a ball team as the manager did last year. However Aisenbrey has leased the ball grounds for his second nine and ex-pects to scoop in every second nine in the whole country. Watch his smoke. The checks are going out fast at the Menno Lumber Company office to pay the 10 percent dividend declared by the board of directors. March 16 the Pennsylvania, a new $14,000,000 battleship, the greatest battleship in the world in cost and dimensions, will be launched. Uncle Sam is adding more ships while Euro-pean nations are having theirs sent to the bottom. 80 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald March 21,1935 It is reported that Mrs. John Kramer has rented her house to Edwin Delzer and is going to California to be mar-ried. Ragna Marie Thranum passed away March 14. She was born May 23, 1902. Capper's Weekly - Lady motorist (inexperienced) _ "I've done every-thing I could think of to this car and it won't start." Service man - "Did you choke it?" Lady motorist - "No, but I sure got mad enough to." Hildegarde Moeller, teacher in Dis-trict 24, gave her pupils a six o'clock dinner. The evening was spent in play-ing games after which she treated them to ice cream, cake and candy. The dec-orations were in green to represent St Patrick's Day. Then her brother War-ner took them in his car and delivered them to their several homes. Two big truckloads of shelled corn were on the streets early Monday morning while the drivers were get-ting breakfast. It was a nifty looking Ford Joe Ul-mer and wife brought home from Min-neapolis for Mrs. Ulmer's sister Miss DeCamp, who is teaching in Iowa. Elsie DeCamp came to visit her sis-ter Mrs. Joe Ulmer and took her new car home with her. Stanley Boegler was overhauling Albert Mettler's tractor. 50 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald March 18,1965 Mayor petitions are being circulated for Ted Mehlhaff and R.B. Frasch. Mrs. Hoyer Anderson returned from Bridgeport, Conn., where she visited Morna Anderson who is a medical technologist at Bridgeport Metropoli-tan Hospital. Roberta Jungman attended a brunch at the home of Sara Brandt in Sioux Falls, put on by Girl Staters from Sioux Falls who invited all the other 1964 Girl Staters to this get-together during the "B" tournament. They will have another one next Saturday fore-noon during the "A" tournament. Rev. Elgin E. Boegler died March 6 at the age of 58 years. Charles Zeeb, sophomore vocation-al trades student at SSC at Springfield, is on the dean's honor roll. Raymond Mettler of Menno recent-ly sold one registered polled Hereford bull each to Dale Kirschenman and Daryl Heckenlaible, both of Menno. 30 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald March 20,1985 Mrs. Harold (Olinda) Auch, age 64, died March 10. The annual meeting of the Farmers Union Coop Oil Company was held March 18. Directors re-elected are Curtis Ulmer, Alton Nusz and Eugene P. Auch. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Schortzman re-turned from a bus trip to the National Farmers Union Convention in Phoe-nix. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hora are the proud parents of a daughter born March 16 named Megan Jane. Kleo Steffen and Rev. Wenzel were repairing and cleaning radiators at the center. Things do have to be fixed and these gentlemen have the know-how. 15 YEARS AGO Hutchinson Herald March 15,2000 Willard and Darlene (Buchholz) Goehring are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary March 20, with a card shower in their honor. Greg and Marilyn Liebl announce the engagement of their daughter Coleen to Ryan Smith. A May 6, wed-ding is planned. Scott and Melody Hecht are the parents of a son born Feb. 21, named Joshua Bryce. A 40th anniversary card shower for Ken and Ann (Gluenkin) Herrboldt was requested. They were married March 18,1960.
